Paolo, shaping up for the future
Paolo
Banchero Season in review
Team leader
and the player that was the catalyst for a trade that sent NSL superstar
Giannis Antetokounmpo to the San Antonio spurs is starting to show why the
Clippers management felt comfortable albeit nervous about making the move.
Paolo had
somewhat of a breakout season in the NBA / NSL highlighted by a 2nd
year NBA All star appearance and a season ending 2k rating of 88 and a NSL rank
just shy of top 50. While this doesn’t and won’t equate to immediate success it
is pointing in the right direction for the club.
As of writing
Paolo will finish the season with averages of approximately. 22pts 9 Rebounds 3
assists per game just over 10points per game better than the previous season.
And hopes are high he can keep that improvement going in an upward direction.
One thing
for certain is that Paolo Banchero is locked into the Power Forward position
long term now it’s up to the Clippers management to put the pieces around him
and build a team that can at least be competitive on the basketball court.
What’s Next’
As touched on
in a previous article, the draft and more importantly free agency are the next
key dates that will shape the Clippers roster for what could be years to come.
We are lucky to be in a position in which we may be able to make some noise in
the next few months.
1. 1 x 2024 1st round
lottery pick
2. 2 x Early 2nd round picks
3. $56,000,000 Available Cap Space
4. Three roster Spots
The ability
to add a potential high lottery pick and the possibility of adding a max level
free agent is not something that occurs often, and really will make or break
the clippers over the coming seasons.
Regardless of
what happens the focus will solely be on finding an interior defensive anchor,
getting abused on the defensive and offensive glass repeatedly is not going to
win games consistently in the NSL and is something that will be rectified this
coming off season.
While the
Clippers unit is still maybe a season or two away it is most definitely on
track per my expectations.
