Rookie Spotlight - Cason Wallace
Rookie Spotlight
Cason Wallace 20yo
Drafted
·
NBA Pick #10
·
NSL Pick #14
Cason played his collegiate basketball at the prestigious
University of Kentucky, a 5-star recruit who was selected to play in both the McDonalds
All Star game as well as the Jordan Brand classic.
Doing enough during his sole season in college to earn
lottery pick selection by the Oklahoma City Thunder who actually traded from 12th
to 10th overall selection to get their man.
Cason isn’t the prototypical point guard, his true strength
being on the defensive side of the ball. His defensive capabilities so highly
regarded his offence and shooting capabilities often disregarded.
While he isn’t a go-to scoring option he is incredibly
efficient currently shooting the ball 50% fg and just shy of 40% from 3
Outlook
Cason is a highly regarded member of the LA Clippers
NSL franchise who view the 6’3 point guard as a vital cog in the basketball
machine they are trying to build. His defensive prowess coupled with his under
rated shooting abilities are a perfect combination to their franchise power
forward in Paolo Banchero.
While he may never become a super star his Marcus
Smart / Jrue Holiday archetype is something many teams covet when competing.
Cason starting the 2024-25 season as the lead guard for
LAC is what we expect moving forward and for many, many seasons to follow.
What’s Next’
Next step for the Clippers is to limp into the off
season having completed the worst NSL season in GM Andrew’s history.
Obviously, the draft will be our next port of call,
where we desperately hope to fill out the roster in areas of need. Unfortunately
drafting for need over BPA is not how we play the game so at some point in the
not to distant future filling the gaps will be a huge priority.
