The Juice Worth the Squeeze?

The Juice Worth the Squeeze?

Its no secret that in the NSL, you need to be competitive on the glass. Rebounding, both on the defensive and offensive ends, appears to be a critical component of consistently winning games. This isnt atypical for 2k and NSL basketball, but this season, it seems extra important, with shooting and finishing languishing well below the mean for all players except for inside finishing big men.

Rebounding is the flavour, and Thompson was in luck this has been his best trait for his career. A surprise to almost everyone, Tristan Thompson was offered a contract in the waning weeks of the season, by the Portland Trailblazers and the Washington Wizards. The veteran big, who has been out of the league for almost an entire year, has regained a small pulse of a career, joining the Trailblazers in the lead up to the NSL Playoffs. The Blazers and Wizards jostled for hours before the former formally signed Thompson, much to the chagrin of the Wizards Front Office.

Why Thompson? In the wake of the Thompson signing, Markieff Morris was the unlucky casualty to make way for the incoming player. Morris, highly valued as a veteran leader and crafty shooter, will be missed; upon waiving, Morris has already agreed to terms with the Milwaukee Bucks, who aspire to push deep into the playoffs, like Portland.

Without seeing him on court for an entire season, it remains to be seen what he can bring to the team. In theory, he should be the perfect fit for the 2k23 engine careful with the ball, hungry for rebounds, worthy defender. At the cost of Morris, and plenty of cash, it was a hasty yet hopeful decision, that may or may not pay off for Portland.

Is he any better than Markieff Morris (and a whole wad of cash)? Is there even a role for him on the deep Portland team? Are the ratings superficial, or super useful? Will Tristan keep it in his pants long enough and not father any more children, to help Portland in the playoffs?

No one knows, including Portland.

to be determined.
