SIXTH MAN WATCH - Week 1
| PLAYER | TEAM | WHY | STATS | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
![]() | PER 27.48 | ![]() Eastern 4-7 | Naz came off the bench in week 1 as he has for a lot of his career and maybe starting to justify his new big contract, he put up 14 points, 7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and a steal in 18 minutes. 59/40/100 splits are phenomenal and the big man spot who can also step out is alive and well. | 12.9 PTS 6.1 REB 1.6 AST 1.3 STL 0.9 BLK |
![]() | PER 26.95 | ![]() Western 6-5 | It's been only 1 week, but we have seen some stellar bench play already and Tristan Vuksevic from the 2way slot in Portland was right up there. 15 minutes to produce 15 points, 7 rebounds, an assist and a steal per game and he shot it 75/50/90 splits too. If this is sustainable, at least for 50 games, maybe he has a real shot? | 14.5 PTS 6.0 REB 1.5 AST 1.4 STL 0.4 BLK |
![]() | PER 23.14 | ![]() Eastern 8-4 | The Spurs love a scoring guard off the bench and Bogdan is the man this year. 16 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists show he's only out there to score, but with the cast around him that job is made easy for a veteran scorer like Bog. 56/33/100 splits also, and 20 minutes a game, as long as the Spurs are healthy then Big will get his off the bench. | 13.5 PTS 1.3 REB 2.9 AST 0.5 STL 0.4 BLK |
![]() | PER 22.88 | ![]() Eastern 9-3 | Trayce Jackson Davis got 16 minutes a game off the bench for his new team and put up a very TJD line going for 10 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists, but not much on the defensive side. He showed some promise as a rookie early for the Celtics, but they cut bait with him after he fell out of the rotation in the NBA and saw his future become cloudy. He can fill a hole here, but I feel he'll drop from the rotation at some point. | 10.5 PTS 6.3 REB 1.8 AST 0.3 STL 0.5 BLK |
![]() | PER 21.13 | ![]() Eastern 4-8 | Whitmore saw 21 minutes a game off the bench this week since Tatum is done for the year and he poured in 17 points with 5 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal looking like he wanted to make this team his. Really strong all round play, and on good volume, too. If he continues in this role and doesn't force his way into the starting line up, you can imagine it's going to be hard for voters to turn their noses up at this type of line. | 18.9 PTS 5.9 REB 4.2 AST 1.2 STL 0.6 BLK |
![]() | PER 21.12 | ![]() Western 4-8 | Next up in the big man off the bench award is Nick Richards. In week 1 he played 22 minutes a game off the bench, putting up 13 points, 7 rebounds, 2.5 assists, a steal and 1.5 blocks which is truly everything you can ask out of your athletic bench big man. He's starting this week, and maybe that will be his issue down the stretch, starting too many games, but this sure is a hell of a way to kick off the campaign to win bench big of the year. | 14.9 PTS 9.1 REB 3.8 AST 0.8 STL 1.1 BLK |
![]() | PER 18.47 | ![]() Western 8-4 | The Mavs surprised this week and Sensabaugh showed he can be the bench scorer that they need going for 11 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists a game on 52/43/100 splits in only 17 minutes. Who would have thought this Mavs team, devoid of big names and wallowing in renegged trades and slow moves, is now the talk of the league? Brice is a reason why. | 9.0 PTS 2.6 REB 2.1 AST 0.3 STL 0.0 BLK |
![]() | PER 18.25 | ![]() Western 7-5 | The Lakers needed a guard to step up and Donte did that in spades this week. 18 points a game with 4 rebounds and 2 assists was a really nice break out from the athletic guard whom has always profiled as a great 2k guy, but never really lived up to it. He did still need near starters minutes, 27 minutes a game, to get the numbers, but 51/47/75 splits show he was efficient and will fill a role for the Lakers even when they get healthy. | 17.9 PTS 3.3 REB 3.3 AST 0.5 STL 0.3 BLK |
![]() | PER 16.85 | ![]() Eastern 4-8 | Detroit were forced to deploy Gueye as their bench big this week and he did so in a big way playing 18 minutes for 12 points, 5 rebounds, an assist and a block per game on 74/60/67 splits. He's not going to do this weekly, you wouldn't have thought and he might drop out of the rotation at times too, but he's athletic and effective when he plays. | 12.2 PTS 6.2 REB 2.0 AST 1.2 STL 1.1 BLK |
![]() | PER 15.76 | ![]() Western 7-5 | The Jazz chose to extend Williams this offseason and he has been thrown into the bench role right away, where in 16 minutes a game he put up a very solid 12 points, 5.5 rebounds and an assists and steal per game. 66/38/100 splits also, again showing the strength of big men who can step out in this engine. | 13.5 PTS 7.3 REB 1.6 AST 1.3 STL 0.5 BLK |
