SIXTH MAN WATCH - Week 6
PLAYER | TEAM | WHY | STATS | |
---|---|---|---|---|
PER 31.21 | Western 4-23 | I feel Poole's nomination point here is going to be short lived, even though he was dynamite off the bench during his time this year for the Clippers. He averaged 20 points in 23 minutes in that role, but has now started all games he's played for the Warriors, and that won't be changing anytime soon as they push to move up the standings. As a starter he's averaging 30 points and 3 assists on better splits, too, so he'll soon have started too many games to be eligible. | 23.4 PTS 1.9 REB 2.7 AST 0.7 STL 0.3 BLK | |
PER 29.21 | Eastern 11-16 | Jordan Clarkson hasn't played nearly as much as the 76ers would have liked him to, and the team seems to almost be chalk and cheese between when he is and isn't coming off their bench and torching teams. They targeted him in a trade to bring in the perennial 6th man nominee and this year, all games off the bench, he's pouring in 21 points with 3 rebounds and 3 assists on 44/33/82 splits in 24 minutes. The team hasn't been healthy enough to see how he can really fair with more of the top level talent healthy and playing around him, too. | 20.8 PTS 3.3 REB 2.9 AST 0.6 STL 0.1 BLK | |
PER 29.03 | Eastern 23-6 | The Cavs have been flying this year with one of the deeper rosters going round, while also full of top level talent. That has pushed the gifted scorer in Anfernee Simons to the bench, which is a luxury to say the least. In only 24 minutes a game, with only 4 starts of 28 games played, he has torched the league for 22 points a game with 3 rebounds and 2 assists on 47/38/93 splits. It's the perfect role for Simons whom is a sieve defensively, but to come in and light it up while a starter rests is perfect! | 21.2 PTS 2.8 REB 2.0 AST 0.4 STL 0.2 BLK | |
PER 27.94 | Eastern 4-24 | Until this week, Giddey had been playing exclusively off the bench in New York and he's been one of the top performers there all year. If not, the favourite for 6th man of the year. In 25 minutes he's averaging 19.6 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists and 1 steal on 46/32/77 splits and only 1.3 turnovers per game, lighting up the scoreboard every game. Maybe though, if he starts the rest of the way, he might lose the chance at this award? | 19.9 PTS 5.8 REB 2.9 AST 1.0 STL 0.3 BLK | |
PER 26.36 | Western 18-10 | Russell Westbrook has become well accustomed to the dynamite 6th man role the last couple of years as his star has slowly fallen and this year is no exception in New Orleans. He started last week due to the Luka injury and other missing personnel, but has only started 8 of 27 games this year and is averaging 19 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a smattering of blocks and steals in 26 minutes a game. he's also playing much more efficient than in recent years at 55/36/66 splits. He's going to be in the conversation at the end of the year, especially after Luka returns and he stops getting starts. | 18.9 PTS 3.8 REB 3.9 AST 0.8 STL 0.6 BLK | |
PER 25.75 | Western 13-15 | Supposedly Dinwiddie is the shoe in 6th Man of the Year winner according to his GM...who is trying to sell him to the highest bidder. And yet, he seems to be outside the top 5 currently. he's started 4 games of the 26 played and boasts an average of 18 points, 3 rebounds and 4 assists on 45/37/80 splits, which probably puts him firmly down the order a little rather than a guaranteed 6th man winner, but who can argue with a good sales pitch? | 17.8 PTS 2.9 REB 3.7 AST 0.4 STL 0.4 BLK | |
PER 25.69 | Eastern 14-14 | Schroder has had an up and down time in the league on the whole, especially since he started taking short term deals which can be a headache in our format. This last week off the bench for the Pistons he averaged 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists though in 26 minutes and if he kept that up, he'd be hard pressed to lose the 6th man award! His time in Detroit though has actually been a little less productive than the 2 weeks in Toronto, and he started 4 games, too, but the averages of 16 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists shouldn't be sneezed at. I think Sheed has found a new formula though, so maybe this last week is more sustainable than it would seem? | 16.8 PTS 3.4 REB 4.0 AST 0.5 STL 0.3 BLK | |
PER 24.44 | Eastern 19-10 | Funnily enough, one of the OG bench scoring types is actually down the list a little on the year as Sexton has played 22 minutes a game with 4 starts of 26 games and averaging 15 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. As long as LaMelo is healthy, there would seem to be little chance Sexton starts too much to be out of this awards running, and if he can put together more weeks like his last where he averaged 24 points in 22 minutes, he might make a run up the nominee list! | 15.9 PTS 2.4 REB 2.3 AST 0.6 STL 0.2 BLK | |
PER 19.30 | Eastern 19-9 | Scoot is a topic of much discussion around the league, far more than he probably deserves really, but that's because of the GM that owns him. He's started only 4 games of 22, they were last week, and he's actually performed better off the bench than as a starter where he averaged 10 points on 44/17/67 last week, compared to averaging 14 points, 3 rebounds, 4 assists on 45/31/78 splits on the season. He's divisive and has a LONG way to go to being a sure fire NBA player still, but if you ask Yeet, he's already Dame. | 12.9 PTS 2.5 REB 3.3 AST 0.5 STL 0.1 BLK | |
PER 18.68 | Eastern 21-8 | The Bucks landed Hield and he's been their staple scorer off the bench for all but 2 games this year, which are from this week. On the year he's averaging 14 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal in 27 minutes and he's been one of the more efficient scorers doing it on 46/41/76 splits. With a team friendly deal, Hield figures to be in this type of role going forward and is going to pay dividends. | 13.9 PTS 3.0 REB 2.4 AST 0.8 STL 0.4 BLK |
