Feel the Teal - 3rd QTR Recap
FFeel the Teal It has been an eventful 3rd qtr for the Hornets faithful. The big news was the loss of fan favorite and defensive stalworth Joe Ingles for the season with a torn ACL. Ingles defensive presence and ability to play without the ball has been a major part of the Hornets success for the past season and a half. Joe was definitely one of the best help defenders I ever played with. Said team co-captain Chris Paul and as a one-on-one defender he could hold his own against the opposing teams best player. Without Ingles the Hornets have to run a different offensive and defensive game plan to compensate for the loss of his offensive playmaking. He literally never takes a bad shot and his defensive tenacity. An extremely capable 3 point shooter. Ingles was good for nearly 44% from beyond the arc and even though it was low volume. You could expect with a reasonable amount of confidence that his shot was going to go in. In a move that was unpopular with some fans. Management wasted little time in trying to fill the void. Ingles expiring deal was traded out for aging gunner Eric Gordon. EG is having a bit of a down season but management believes that even though he is not as defensively capable as Ingles. He should be able to spark the offense for the 2nd unit where the Hornets have struggled on and off all season. Despite the lack of bench production. The Hornets are second in the league and first in the east with a record of 47 10. Some of which they can credit their stellar road record of 25-4 which leads the league. The defensive intensity will probably fall a few notches. But the coaching staff feels the roster has enough versatility and depth to make due going forward. In other injury news. Chris Paul will play week 15 in a soft hand cast and will likely miss weeks 16 thru 20 plus possibly the first week of the playoffs with an avulsion fracture of his thumb. Chris brings so much leadership to the table. There is no real way to replace what he does. So everyone will have to step up a little bit more and be more accountable for every possession said Luka Doncic. It is extremely debatable if the Hornets can hang on to their position atop the Eastern Conference without Ingles and CP3. Fortunately both players and coaching staff see it as an opportunity to put the versatility and roster depth to the test. Just another day at the lab Says Hornets GM Craig B. As we ramp up for home stretch the Hornets media department are working on some entertaining surprises for the fans. With everyone looking forward to putting last years flameout in the rear-view mirror the injuries are not god news. But the expectation is still for the team to win as many games as possible and secure home court.
