Long Live the King
Long Live the King!
The Washington Wizards have started the season better than at any point in franchise history with 19 wins and only one loss through the first 20 games of the season. You don’t have a record like that because of any one player but it does start from the top and no one is higher than The King, Lebron James.
Currently 39 years young (mere days away from his 40th birthday), Lebron has seemingly spent his off season at the fountain of youth exploding to start the season to the tune of 41.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 4.8 assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.4 steals! Incredible stats from any player let alone someone whose prime should’ve ended well before the start of the decade we are 4 years into. James has predominantly playing the 4 this season after being mainly at the 3 to close the season but with the outstanding play of Yabusele forcing his way into the starting line up for week 5 pushing the revolving door of Wiggins and Coffey to the bench to try provide a scoring punch in the bench unit while sliding Lebron down to his more natural 3 position.
The addition of Jrue Holiday to the squad has provided a much needed defensive presence that was all too often lacking besides the rim protection of Clint Capela throughout the squad has seen it go from all too offensive to a smooth blend of offense and defense. Booker is thriving as Lebron's right hand man focusing more on his scoring and defense while spacing the floor to give Lebron room to plough his way to the rim on drives.
The Wizards have been fortunate with health with none of the big 4 yet to miss a week in Lebron, Booker, Holiday and Capela. This will come eventually but the Gm is hoping the depth he has acquired in the off season will be able to hold down the fort in their stead as the inevitable games are missed.
The Washington Wizards title push will need everyone to fire but it ultimately will be led by Lebron James. Live by the King, die by the King.
