NSL Insider - Team by Team: Philadelphia 76ersby laddas, updated on Sunday, November 24 2024, 07:08 pm EST Philadelphia 76ers Team By Team 2023-24 Finish: 52-30 Season Highlight: Philly took a huge leap from their 2022/2023 season to this one, improving by 13 wins and finding themselves top 3 in the East. It felt like this was the season GM Nenjabin finally put it all together, and lead by the amazing play of De’Aaron Fox, the Sixers fast become one of the teams no one wanted to play. RebPerc - 0.524 5th in the NSL Other than some MVP play from Fox, Philly’s biggest threat was their ability to control the boards, and long has been in the NSL, that you control the boards, you control the game. Season Lowlight: The Sixers made it past the 1st round, beating the upstart Raps 4 games to 2. Unfortunately they came up against the eventual champions the Milwaukee Bucks and were swept with relative ease. More of a disappointment then lowlight, but it just showed how far away they were from really competing at the top. TSPerc - 0.574 17th in the NSL Now, its not horrible, it was right around league average, but this was the difference to the elite teams for the Sixers. Were the Sixers lacking in this department in favour of controlling boards? Possibly. Begs the question, with a more efficient offence, would the Sixers push the Bucks to 6 or 7 games? Best Trade: 24/01/30 - The Dallas Mavericks send Marcus Smart, Chris Duarte and Rayan Rupert to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Houston Rockets send Goga Bitadze to the Indiana Pacers. The Houston Rockets send Royce ONeale to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Indiana Pacers send P.J. Tucker and Dariq Whitehead to the Houston Rockets. The Indiana Pacers send Cory Joseph to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Milwaukee Bucks send Miles Bridges to the Dallas Mavericks. The Milwaukee Bucks send Dario Saric to the Indiana Pacers. The Philadelphia 76ers send Talen Horton-Tucker and Gabe Vincent to the Dallas Mavericks. The Philadelphia 76ers send Jericho Sims to the Milwaukee Bucks. The Houston Rockets send a 2nd-Rounder (Hou) and 2nd-Rounder (Por) to the Indiana Pacers. The Milwaukee Bucks send a 2nd-Rounder (Orl) to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Philadelphia 76ers send a 2nd-Rounder (Mem) and 2nd-Rounder (Por) to the Dallas Mavericks. The Philadelphia 76ers send a 2nd-Rounder (LAL) to the Indiana Pacers. The Philadelphia 76ers send a 1st-Rounder (NO) to the Milwaukee Bucks. Ending up with one of the best perimeter defenders in the league for 2 guys who are clinging onto their NBA careers right now and a guy is supposed to be a shooter that cant shoot right now on 11m per year? Big win here for the Sixers. Smart has his issues, but what he’s good at, he’s REEEEALLY good at. Still a lockdown defender, but not only that he’s a pest and will frustrate the oppositions best scorer and despite his 6’3 size, he can defend 1-4 with ease as he’s built like a an NFL tight end. Loved this move for the Sixers and with hindsight, looks even better. Worst Trade: 23/10/21 - The Golden State Warriors send Jericho Sims to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Philadelphia 76ers send Luka Samanic to the Golden State Warriors. The Philadelphia 76ers send a 2nd-Rounder (Mil), 2nd-Rounder (Pho), 2nd-Rounder (Min) and 2nd-Rounder (Min) to the Golden State Warriors. At the time, this seemed good, considering what Sims can bring to 2k, But the guy now is barely hanging on in New York in the NBA. 4 2nds seems like a lot for a journeyman who hasn’t improved at all since making his debut. Now, a saving grace is he was used in the deal to being Smart in later on in the season. Other Notable Trades: 24/07/01 - The Dallas Mavericks send Dean Wade to the New York Knicks. The Golden State Warriors send Cody Martin and Jordan Walsh to the New York Knicks. The New York Knicks send Zach Collins to the Dallas Mavericks. The New York Knicks send Daniel Gafford to the Golden State Warriors. The Dallas Mavericks send a 2nd-Rounder (Sac) and 1st-Rounder (Tor) to the New York Knicks. The Dallas Mavericks send a 2nd-Rounder (Mem) to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Dallas Mavericks send a 1st-Rounder (LAL) to the San Antonio Spurs. The Golden State Warriors send a 1st-Rounder (Ind) and 2nd-Rounder (NY) to the New York Knicks. The New York Knicks send a 1st-Rounder (Tor) to the Dallas Mavericks. The New York Knicks send a 1st-Rounder (NY) to the Philadelphia 76ers. The Philadelphia 76ers send a 1st-Rounder (Phi) and 2nd-Rounder (Chi) to the New York Knicks. The Philadelphia 76ers send a 2nd-Rounder (NY) to the San Antonio Spurs. The San Antonio Spurs send a 1st-Rounder (NO) to the New York Knicks. Philly was only involved here with picks but it has turned into Ryan Dunn and Bronny James for Kyle Filipowski and Tristan Newton… Huge win here for the Sixers as Dunn has already established himself defensively but surprisingly is well ahead of where most thought he was as a shooter. Good little move here for the Sixers Free Agency: With an over full roster, The sixers will be quiet in free agency. Only real one piece of business to take care of and it will be straight in bringing back a restricted Precious Achiuwa. Star: De’Aaron Fox – 34.7ppg 6.0apg 3.0rpg 1.1spg 56%/46%/74% splits What a season it was for Swipa! Fox has had some good seasons before, but it felt like a true welcome to the NSL moment for Fox. At times he carried the Sixers to a win and was borderline unstoppable at times. The only knock on him would his FT%, if it was in the mid to high 80’s, Fox would’ve been a terror as he gets to the hoop with ease and draws a lot of contact. In saying that, it was a near flawless season for Fox and him and the Sixers can be proud. Flop: Andrew Wiggins – 13.0ppg 2.9rpg 2.4apg 49%/47%/76% He wasn’t horrible but I think a lot more was expected of Wiggins last season. His build should make him a very friendly 2k scorer but it just didn’t work. 6’8 and blessed with some insane athleticism, Wiggins should be more than just a 13/3/2 player and for me that’s why he was the Sixers flop. Things were even worse come playoff time and his scoring dropped 5ppg and he shot just 33% from the field… not good enough. Draft Grades: Pick 16 – Ryan Dunn Love this pick. It cut my heart in half on draft day as this was who I was locked in on at pick 17… But well played Nenjabin. Dunn was an elite defender in college and it looks like he will carry that on in the NBA/NSL but what the biggest surprise is, he’s already establishing himself as a decent 3 point shooter. A good future beckons for this young man. A shit ton of 2nds Sorry Ben, I love ya, but I’m not listing every 2nd round pick here… As always Nenjabin gets great value out of his second round picks and always has his guys he has zeroed in on. Best part about loading up is you get a solid handful of potential with low expectations but on cheap contracts… and then maybe once a decade you land a Jokic. The Future: A huge shock to see Fox traded, He was so good last season, it was a huge surrpise to see him gone but the Sixers wanted to broaden the roster and bringing in an up and coming scrorer like Jalen Green and an elite stretch big that can protect the rim in Porzingis, you can see why they felt like selling high on Fox. The Sixers have had one of the better offseasons and look set to be a real threat in the East. Fan favourite Draymond Green is back, Steven Adams is going to be healthy and Robert Williams and Jordan Clarkson are going to add a real punch to the 2nd unit. I really like the balance and look of this Sixers team and when Zinger returns(early next year) theyre going to be a handful for anyone to contain. Depth Chart: Centre – Steven Adams/DayRon Sharpe/Ariel Hukporti Power Forward – Kristaps Porzingis/Robert Williams/Precious Achiuwa Small Forward – Draymond Green/Kevin Heurter/Ryan Dunn/Jonathan Mogbo Shooting Guard – Jalen Green/Jordan Clarkson/ Point Guard – Marcus Smart/Cameron Christie/Ajay Mitchell
