SIXTH MAN WATCH - Week 11

PLAYERTEAMWHYSTATS

C.J. McCollum

PER 31.60

Eastern
22-27
Don't look now but CJ has become the super sub this year still playing 26 minutes a night for the Heat, but only having started 8 of 35 games. He's pouring in 25 points per game still though, and maybe his skillset has always led to this role with his lack of defense and elite ability to fill up the score sheet quickly?

Anfernee Simons

PER 29.40

Eastern
37-11
Like CJ, Simons has found a new home on the bench this year and made it his own. On the season he's averaging 21 points a game in 25 minutes a game, having started only 4 of his 43 games played. Last week he dropped 26 a night and the Cavs have loved having this instant offense enter the game when the starters need a breather.

Collin Sexton

PER 26.02

Eastern
35-15
Sexton went absolutely bananas the week before last in his usual bench role boosting his season averages to 18 points in 25 minutes, 9 starts from 46 games. Last week however was one of his starting weeks and he was actually more subdued in that role with only 18 points per game. He's best fitted and suited to that bench role making the 3 guard rotation with Ball and Suggs a very valuable trio.

Josh Giddey

PER 24.24

Eastern
8-40
Giddey continues to come off the bench majority of the time, even though he did have a week or 2 of starting there. This last week he was actually much more subdued than he has been all season with only 10 points a game in 21 minutes a game, well below his averages, and he's dropped a little in the 6th man race as a result.

Spencer Dinwiddie

PER 24.13

Western
26-23
Dinwiddie was ripping it up off the Lakers bench so was moved to a contender before the lakers decided they too are a contender. In New Orleans he's started 9 of his 11 games mainly due to injuries to others, but if he keeps getting starts here, then he might reach the point of being ineligible. He's scoring 16 points a games in 25 minutes a game and 5 assists also, so he's a valuable bench piece that the Lakers whom are now competing, miss.

Dennis Schroder

PER 23.88

Eastern
22-27
Toronto shifted Dennis to Detroit and he's played every game there with only 8 starts. 15 points and 4 assists is a strong performance from your high useage guard and he continues to aid the Pistons as they make a push to the playoffs. He's been a little down of late, but he's still a threat to take a team apart in short minutes every night.

Russell Westbrook

PER 23.26

Western
31-17
Westbrook has been a 6th man type the last few years now, still pinch hitting as a productive starter when injury strikes, but attacking the defense for buckets in that traditional scoring guard role. 18 points a game in 27 minutes a game, with 16 of 43 starts, he's doing a tad more around the court that the other two with 4 rebounds and 4 assists and nearly a steal per game too.

17.8 PTS

Payton Pritchard

PER 20.83

Eastern
14-33
Payton Pritchard is actually one of the guys who hasn't started a single game all year, thus a true 6th man. He's scoring 12 points and 3 assists a game in 22 minutes off the bench and he's taken some leaps and bounds forward this season in Atlanta on a super team friendly deal too. He's been a bit inefficient at times, but he's still getting results.

Kevin Huerter

PER 20.24

Eastern
22-25
Don't look now, but Kevin Huerter who is nothing, is suddenly in the 6th man conversation. He was playing strongly in Philly before he was traded in the PG deal averaging 14 points in 34 games, 13 starts, and now he's been exclusively off the bench for the Bucks averaging 13 points in 20 minutes. He's tall, likes a shot, and is a good shooter so he's filling that bench role nicely.

Goga Bitadze

PER 19.12

Eastern
35-15
Goga is the first and only non-guard in the 6th man conversation it seems. His numbers don't spark the same level of awe when you're talking about guys dropping 20+ points a night in limited minutes, but he's started only 4 games of his 41 and playing only 18 minutes a game anchoring the middle for the Bulls with 6 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 block on efficient shooting and minimal turnovers. Go big man!
