PLAYER OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 4

PLAYERTEAMWHYSTATS

Derrick White

PER 32.38

Eastern
2-2
Derrick White has made the jump into 2k stardom folllowing an NBA title where he emerged as the .5 in the 2.5 stars in Boston. As the key piece in Miami this year he's looked truly elite, dominating both ends of the floor. He will absolutely be on this list more than once this season as Miami continue to refine their build and become a greater threat out East. Week 4 brought numbers of 30 points and 5 assists per game. He's trending towards an All Star appearance.

Clint Capela

PER 26.22

Eastern
3-1
The entire Wizards starting lineup might be up for POTW throughout this season as they discard of any opposition standing between them and a W. Capella is the perfect big man for this squad, a board crashing paint finisher who requires the ball for a total of about 20 seconds a game to land double digit points to go with all the boards. Week 4 was exactly what GM Joshua was looking for from his key big man, 14 points on 75% FG, 15 rebounds, 1.3 steals and 2.5 blocks. He will be in discussion for DPOY if he keeps these numbers up.

Lebron James

PER 35.71

Another member of the Wizards, the key member, the king, Lebron looks back to his MVP form in a supercharged contender that has only one blemish on the record through the first 4 weeks. Here's his chance for his second POTW in 4 weeks, after taking out the coveted award in W1. The only thing stopping him from winning this every second week is his star-studded support cast, though Lebron is the headlining act. He averaged 37 points, nearly 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 2.5 blocks in W4. Impressive once again by the near 40 year old legend.

Jayson Tatum

PER 38.83

Eastern
3-1
Jayson Tatum has finally arrived at the top of the top of the list. He's built for 2k with size, defence, shooting and positional versatility, though it still feels like there's a gear left to go up. His minutes sat at only 33 per game through the season which isn't nearly enough for a star. Surely GM Toby tries to find ways to get his gun on the court longer as there's sections of games where Tatum could completely dominate. He is a sentimental GM though and probably wants to see all his guys shine as his stable of young studs continue to blossom. Still, Tatum should be in MVP discussions. If he keeps averaging 40 points, 7 rebounds, 3.5 assists in limited minutes, he will likely be in those discussions anyway. An award could go begging here.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

PER 35.16

The defending MVP will be see around these parts all season, especially if the Bucks continue to trend up as they did in Week 4. Whatever 2k did to adjust tendencies, it made a huge difference and the Bucks were undefeated through the week, dismembering some notable opponents. SGA averaged 36 points, nearly 6 rebounds, 6.8 assists, 1.8 steals and 1.3 blocks. Insane that we almost see these numbers as underperforming (compared to last season), but the incredible efficiency and terrific defensive numbers will have him right in the mix this week.

Jaylen Brown

Memphis haven't had the start they envisioned though they spent much of the offseason shredding salary and building through the draft. The roster looks sensational though one of the stars need to step into the role with greater conviction. Brown averaged 34 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists in week 4 as he puts himself on the map to Grizzlies management to say, "I'm the guy". With greater consistency in results, Brown will land himself in the All Star game this year.

James Harden

PER 38.04

Western
2-2
The winningest player in NSL history and player with more titles than any NSL GM. Harden once again looks supercharged in this year's rendition of 2k and is putting up numbers reminiscent of his Houston days where he was the system. Week 4 saw Harden average 42 points, 5 assists, 4 rebounds with 1.3 steals and 1.3 blocks. Epic on both ends. It was a tough week for Utah but they came out with and 2-2 result which they will take with Embiid sidelined. Harden will be an All Star once again this season, what a stud.

Russell Westbrook

PER 36.58

Western
2-2
Acquired with a first round pick, many GMs will say it's an overpay for the athletic veteran Russell Westbrook. Weeks like this prove he's well-worth the price and might even be a bargain! As the Pelicans 6th man this week Westbrook averaged 28 points, 3 assists and 3 rebounds with a block and steal. He only played 26 minutes per contest meaning if he had been unleashed in a starting role we could be looking at SGA numbers. WTF?! The Pels split their week 2-2 but Westbrook did more than hold up his end of the bargain as he terrorised the opposing team's second units throughout the week. 6MOTY might be his if he keeps performing at this level.

Giannis Antetokounmpo

PER 36.21

Western
3-1
It feels like Giannis's name will be here all season unless he's won the award in the previous week. There's something about this new engine where the ball always ends up the hands of the star or stars in the lineup. For the Spurs, Giannis is the key piece and there's no other player on the roster that will rival him for shots. He'll be in the mix for MVP but the Spurs will need to climb the standings in order for him to be the winner. Through week 4 he averaged 46 points, 11 rebounds, 6.5 assists, 1.5 steals and 2 blocks. That's a buffet.

Nikola Jokic

PER 29.66

Western
3-1
The Joker is starting to heat up though his 2k numbers are still dwarfed by his real life production. In a 3-1 week, Jokic was dominant on both ends, scoring efficiently, assisting at high levels and rebounding at a huge rate. 17.5 points, 18 rebounds, 5.5 assists to go with 1.3 steals and 2.3 blocks is supurb all-round production, however GM Vitty has openly stated he wants more. Perhaps a blockbuster trade could free up some more of the ball for this dominant All Star.
