Toronto Raptors

Clean slate

This week Toronto said goodbye to Paul George and DeMar DeRozan, two veterans that had been with the Raptors for 3 years collectively. Though never really getting to see what they could do on the court together through injuries, their age timelines just didn't match the direction we were taking and we thank them for their service to the team.

Taking over this team I had a plan to get younger but still be a competitive side pushing for a title with a longer window of opportunity. With Zion having the potential to be a top 10 player in the league at only 22 years old we wanted to surround him with talent he can age with rather than those that will start to decline as Zion reaches his prime.

DeMar was the first domino in this process and we reached a deal with the Milwaukee Bucks.

In: Alec Burks, Cedi Osman, Aaron Nesmith, BKN 23 1st, MIL 23 1st, LAL 24 1st
Out: DeMar DeRozan

This move saw us unlock our 2023 and 2025 1sts from the stepien rule and allow us more flexibility with our picks. It also brought in the role players this team desperately needed in some outside shooters and a young prospect.

PG13 was the last piece to be moved, having managed George at 2 different franchises this was a harder decision to make however when presented with an opportunity to move the roster more towards what we had in mind the offer was too good to pass up.

In: Donovan Mitchell, Robert Williams
Out: Paul George, TOR 23 1st

I had been after Donovan Mitchell and Robert Williams for most of my NSL tenure. Donovan now has his own team in Utah and will hopefully push to another level. Rob Will has finally figured it out, he has the makings of a DPOY type big man and his passing and play finishing skills are also improving. Both these guys are locked in and ready to run out with Zion Williamson for a long time. We look forward to watching all the new Raptors suit up next season and who will join them in free agency and the draft.
