Week 8 - ROOKIE RANKINGS

The Rookie Class of 2018-19 has been of stellar caliber with some clear standouts. But out of the shadows there can only be one supreme. You cannot daily the heart and endeavour of these young prospects but much like the career of a child star, drugs, alcohol and percodan addiction can hold anyone back. Sooooo - let’s see the current rookie rankings and their Child Star comparisons.

Season Rookie Rankings

Deandre Ayton
1
Last Week: -
Child Star Comparison: Leonardo Di Caprio
Staking his claim for Rookie of the Year every week, the young star from Detroit has produced season stats of 12.2/12.6/4.6. Already securing two Rookie of the Month awards this season, Ayton has been a major reason behind the Pistons sealing the third position in the East. Akin to Di Caprio, Ayton promised a lot from his college performances (Growing Pains), however he has elevated his game above that in the NLL this season (What's Eating Gilbert Grape?), causing many to stand up and take notice of the 7-1 juggernaut.
Will Ayton continue in his current trajectory towards an end of season accolade or be kept waiting until his Revenant?

Marvin Bagley III
Last Week: -
Child Star Comparison - Natalie Portman
He and Grayson Allen have been back and forward in the Rookie of the Week awards for the West.
Back and Forward between the two of them, Bagley III taking weeks 1,3, and 5.
New Orleans see themselves 13th in the West, with Bagley III performing above his more experienced counterparts (The Professional)
His season stats of 16.8 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.0 steals and 2.0 blocks has been super impressive for the 6-11 Power Forward no.4 pick from Duke.
He will need his team to help him in the long-run, as the Rookie Class of 2018-19 is so hotly contested.
Is there still more to come from Marvin, could this be his season in the limelight (The Black Swan)?

Mohamed Bamba

Last Week: -
Child Star Comparison: Hayley Joel Osment
Mo Bamba! Sent to the Knicks from the Pistons in the Kyrie Irving deal, the 7-0 Centre has been undeniably effective for the New York franchise. Accumulating two Rookie of the Week awards in weeks 3 and 6, Bamba will be heavily missed in this game week. His split between NBA to NLL is the most startling, his NLL numbers soaring above those within his NBA start, with 13 pts, 12 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 2 blocks per game, a stern statement from the young man (The Sixth Sense, AI, Pay it Forward).
Can he carry this through or resort to voice acting?

Luka Doncic

Last Week: -
Child Star Comparison: Jodie Foster
The Academy is already taking notice of the talent that is Luka Doncic (Taxi Driver). Akin to Foster at age 14 in Taxi Driver, Doncic has been extra impressive in both NBA and NLL production, accumulating two Rookie of the Week awards in the tough rookie class of the East. Doncic looks bound for success and a lengthy career in the league with further accolades down the track likely (Silence of the Lambs, The Accused). Averaging 22.5 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists, he has kept Indiana in the mix though they still see themselves outside the playoffs standings.
On a personal level, the signs are there, can he keep riding the waves of success and find another level to seperate himself for the Rookie of the Year award. Will we see him eating up the NLL with some fava beans and nice chianti?

Last Week: -
Child Star Comparison - Christina Ricci
Ranked 23rd in the league for all PGs, Young proven himself in a stacked Milwaukee roster. While playing second fiddle to Donovan Mitchell. From his 20 minutes per game, he has averaged 15 points, 1.6 rebounds. An impressive display from the young talent, selected 6th by the Bucks. An impressive display with many asking, where to next (Mermaids, Casper, The Addams Family, Now and Then). But, can he turn this solid beginning into a career with longevity.
Can Trae 'Wednesday' Young burst out from the shadows of Mitchell and find his first Rookie of the Week award?

Last Week: -
Child Star Comparispn - Macaulay Culkin
Bursting onto the scene, Knox has ignited the league with his work on both ends of the court.
Leading a new look Hornets outfit, he has been a shining light (Home Alone). Assisting in some upset wins, Knox has stood up alongside Okogie, while the rest of the roster fall flat. He has made his family disappear and is enjoying the cheese pizza to himself.
Can he find a way to secure ROY or will we be left waiting for the plane to ascend shouting “Kevin”?

Josh Okogie

Last Week: -
Child Star Comparison - Drew Barrymore
Josh Okogie, some have questioned the phonetic nature of his name as well as his Japanese heritage. A youngster on the up, this darling of the court has signs of longevity. Whether he has the famous or powerful parents of Drew remains to be seen, but Okogie has been on the radar of many with his performances. Will it take 50 First Dates before we see his very best? His E.T abilities are on the up and the Hornets would be pleased with his progress from pick19 in the draft.

Child Star Comparison: Frankie Muniz
Grayson Allen, Portland’s favourite son. This is a player that finds himself in a team akin Malcolm in the Middle, a continued week in week out scenario begging “Yes, No, Maybe... can you repeat the question”. But the young Grayson has held his own, but being injured has meant a reboot for the show circa 2010s.
Will the league be shouting “Allen! Allen! Allen!”? Or Steve?

Triple J! Not just a hipster radio station in Australia, playing music you have never heard of, but also a 6-11 Power Forward from the Houston Rockets. Jackson Jr. has been highly effective for the Rockets. As the 2nd overall pick he has shown great strength in a strong outfit.
Lots of praise for the young lad (North, Adventures of Huck Finn, Flipper), can this young Frodo Baggins claim his ring?
