PLAYER OF THE WEEK WATCH - Week 2

Rudy Gay
I read some ill advised article a few days ago that was published about how the Heat need to trade Gay while they still can... Dunno how that guy still has a job but obviously Gay took exception to this and after a 0-5 week one unloaded on his hapless opponents and had 3 40+ point games. The Heat bounced back and looked like an actual basketball team going 3-1, knocking off the young Bucks juggernaut along the way too. Back in business so to speak and it's safe to say the Heat are having a Gay ole time (Heh...). He was extremely efficient and lived at the line all game shooting 90% on 7.8 attempts. White hot.
Carmelo Anthony
Melo is back with a vengeance this year and came out of the gates blistering hot trying to prove something... That he is still one of the best forwards in this league. The Wizards went 2-2 this week which isn't on par with what they produced in week one but both losses were to an insurgent Sixers squad. He's slid into the PF spot perfectly and spread the floor wide open for the wizards. He dropped 31.8 PPG week 2 and did it shooting 51% from the field, can't argue with that... Especially when he's also giving you 8.3 RPG, what can't he do?
Pau Gasol
Soooo the Sixers have bounced back in a serious way and its largely due to one of the best big men in NLL history still getting it done at 36... Wow. He stepped up big time compared to week one and while his numbers might not exactly make you go Goo-goo Ga-Ga just remember he's doing it in 27 mins a game. Shooting 72% from the field and 69% from three on 1.8 makes? Yes please. PAU-PAU!!
DeMarcus Cousins
The Nets went 2-2 in week two including a win over the Magic. Solid. Boogie is the obvious face of this franchise and it all falls on him. As if 25/11 wasn't good enough in week one the guy went beast mode and shot lights out all over the floor (61/67/86) he also improved on the defensive end and he's pretty much doing everything himself. Monster.
Kemba Walker
One of the best PG in the league right now, he's doing everything the suns need him to do. 20/10 is what you would be accustomed seeing from a big man so that kind of output from your franchise point guard is insane. He's picking his shots too shooting 54% from the field and a crazy 65% from down town in week two. The suns have had a harsh opening couple of weeks schedule wise so their record doesn't reflect how good they are. With horford back to take pressure off Kemba expect these kind of numbers all year long.
Jahlil Okafor
A new face on the list to break up the same old guys we see here constantly. NO are looking feisty this year which is a welcome change and Okafor has taken this team by the horns and claimed it as his own. Hopefully he can lead them to some success. 25/10 is elite big man numbers, dude is making a statement.
DeMar DeRozan
PER 22.60
Eastern 3-1
The Magic went 3-2 this week against some solid opponents. DeMar nabbed three player of the game honours and took he's production to a whole new level in week two. The guy gave Orlando 30.6 PPG, 5.6 RPG and 4.4APG this week... Winning the game on both ends of the floor while shooting crazy percentages from all over. The Magic did well with the return on Bro-lo but some saw it as a backwards step. DeMar just saw it as a platform to explode off of.
Harrison Barnes
PER 15.65
Eastern 3-1
Barnes is having a coming out party and led the resurgent dubs team to 3-1 in week two. Taking his game to another level and dropping a shade under 30 points a game shooting 53%. He's an underrated play maker as well and proving he's not just a one trick pony. Golden state are looking legit with this guy leading the charge.
Jimmy Butler
PER 26.09
Eastern 3-1
So the Thunder (kind of?) struggled out of the gates week one but have since finished week two strong on a 3 game win streak. Their only loss of the week was to the then undefeated spurs, nothing to write home to your mother about. Butler is the corner stone of this franchise and put up the same consistent all round numbers you would expect from him.:.. One things for sure Butler will be one of the top tier two way players in this league through out the season.
Klay Thompson
PER 8.98
Western 0-4
He's leading the new look Kings to another great start but this time it can't be put down to an "easy run" with a convincing win against division rivals and reigning champs the Lakers. Getting it done on both ends of the floor as he's usually assigned to shut down the best player on the opposing team.
Brook Lopez
PER 20.43
Western 2-2
Bro-Lo was always solid for the magic but in a block buster trade sending him to the Wolves; in turn giving them the big man they always needed, he has gone off and taken this team over. 20/10 and one of the league leaders in blocks per game, what else can you ask for from your starting Centre? 2-2 this week isn't the Best of results compared to week one but it's good for 2nd out west and it looks like that's about where they'll stay on the back of this seasoned pro.
